alternate transportation
I’ve been walking a lot lately. 24k so far this week (since Sunday). Why? I can’t drive. Well, I can, but I’m not allowed to.
Noah would love to tell you (and has told some people) that I got a DUI. Funny man, he is, but that is not the truth. (I’ve been pulled over for many things, but never for that.) My license expired on the 31st of May and I acquired quite a few points on it during my last year in Regina. A couple speeding tickets, a stop sign ticket, and … I think that’s it. Anyway, I haven’t paid off the points yet (don’t get me started on how lame it is to pay the ticket and then the points on top of that) (I hate driving). So, until I fork over a bunch of hundreds to SGI, I cannot renew my license and therefore will not be behind the wheel.
Noah’s been driving Kaylie to and from school before and after work for the last couple weeks as I recovered from a minor surgery I had at the end of May, but since she isn’t liking the after-school program as much as she used to, I figured I’d try and pick her up as much as I could.
I put Preston in the wrap, Liliana in the Chariot, and made the 6k trek to Kaylie’s school in an hour. We got there a little early and, thankfully, I found a bench by the playground to pass out on rest on before we headed back.
Noah brought Kaylie’s bike in the morning, so she hopped on that and we made the 6k trek home. A couple things sucked, like the fact that I forgot my runners in the car and had to walk all that way in my Chucks. Ouch. I could hardly walk by the time we made it home. And, Kaylie forgot her helmet so I made her bike at the same pace as I was walking.
I’m hoping to do this as many times as I can before Kaylie’s done school and get some of my strength back so I can start running again. After a really rough pregnancy, I’m much weaker than I’d like to be. But, with a 15lb baby and no license, I’ll be back in shape in no time, right?
In other news, my ornery, teething, recovering-from-shots baby was wakened (awakened?) for the second time this week by a couple of Jehovah’s Witnesses ringing the doorbell. It happens at least twice a week from JWs, Mormons, and money-seekers and I’m SO DONE with it. So, I put up this sign, as I don’t know how to disable my doorbell:
My alternate was “I know Jesus and I have no money” but I liked the above one better.
If they (or anyone) ring that bell and wake my baby again, I’m buying a gun.

I think it’s awesome that you’re doing all that walking! I would love to be doing that much walking these days, but I cannot tolerate Virginia summer weather (heat and humidity UGH) for more than a few minutes before I quite simply want to die.
Great exercise!
I love the sign. I also love the Jesus one too. You are a funny lady.
You will be fit in not time! 12 km of walking is outstanding. Also tiring :)
I like the sign you put up too, a little more effective me thinks! Knowing Jesus might not keep ‘em all away!
haha, nice sign!! you’re funny ;)
That sign is AWESOME. As is your long walks! You go, girl!
I’m going to come ring your doorbell everyday now.
Oh how your sarcasm makes me laugh. I think you should put both signs up, right next to each other. And I’d also like to see what you’re going to do to the first person who actually does decide to ring your doorbell!!
Ugh. I know the feeling. The JW are on first name basis with me since being home on mat leave with Lil. They know I am home and come weekly. I have been too nice and now I can’t get rid of them. The other day they rang the doorbell just as I got me new, not so easy to get to sleep DCB down for nap …. [insert lots of not nice words her] …. I think I will copy your sign ;) — it’s a lot nice than the original version in my head ;)
I hate answering the door or the phone if I don`t know who it is. This is one reason i almost always have front curtains drawn!
no driving is AWESOME!!! go girl ;)
Okay so did the sign help?
