Emo Baby

Today seems like a list day, so here goes:

cute baby bum

1. I know what you’re thinking. That’s the cutest baby bum you ever did see. Liliana wore her baby emo jeans for the first time today. She got them for Christmas from Auntie Tali, and Noah and I have been waiting for the day when we can put them on her. She looked quite cute in my (totally unbiased) opinion.

2. Gross thing #1: Kaylie found a slurpee cup on our bookshelf today. Apparently it was shoved behind the books, probably right before a showing. (We find inventive places to put things out of view.) I asked her to dump the liquid in the bathroom sink and then throw the cup out.

She took a little longer than I thought, so I peered into the bathroom. She was drinking it. I still shudder when I think of it.

3. Gross thing #2: Liliana has had bright green snot coming out of eyes for the last couple days. When she woke up from her afternoon nap, she couldn’t even open her left eye because of all the dried-on snot-ish substance. This also makes me shudder.

4. As I was pouring running Liliana’s bath earlier this evening, she found her bar of soap on the side of the tub. She put it in her mouth (as that is where everything goes). She made a face, looked at the soap, put it in her mouth again, made another face, and then threw the soap across the bathroom.

Funniest thing I’ve seen in a while.

5. Kaylie is feeling better and went to school for the afternoon today. She looked like a bit of a crazy person this morning when she got up, but don’t worry, I cleaned her up before I sent her out the door.

The necklace Kaylie is wearing is my peace offering to her for not letting her go to the concert last night. I didn’t tell her about it until after I got home because I didn’t want to disappoint her too much. She was quite understanding, and really liked the necklace.

6. I received some nice ad revenue on Friday that covered more than my hosting fees, so I decided to use some of the remainder to buy something from Bethany Actually’s Etsy Shop.

She’s a genius with a crochet hook.

7. One last picture, just because she’s a cute little bald baby.

Menu Plan Monday, Watoto, and 2 sick kids

mpm

This Week’s Menu:

Monday: Hamburgers and potato salad
Tuesday: Third weekly Widow’s Dinner
Wednesday: Sunday Wednesday Chicken Stew (from the February/March 2008 Taste of Home)
Thursday: Leftover buffet
Friday: Homemade Pizza

Today I had the opportunity to watch the Watoto Children’s Choir from Uganda, Africa.

watoto

I let the choir in the church to start setting up and had the opportunity to watch as they transformed our church for their concert. I stayed around for a couple hours to answer questions, open locked doors, and help them where I could.

When the children came in (they had been napping in the bus), I got to say “Hi!” to them as they went to the practice rooms upstairs. Later, as people were filing into the sanctuary before the concert, one of the little African boys was handing out programs. As he handed one to me, he said (in the sweetest African accent), “I remember you!”

It totally made my evening.

The only part about the concert I did not like was the fact that my family did not join me. Kaylie and Liliana are both sick. Kaylie’s got some sort of cold and is totally and completely out of it, and Liliana has snot coming out of various orifices on her face.

Oh the fun.

I had a friend call me to tell me to watch out for German Measles, because she just found out her daughter has them and we spent an afternoon with them last week. Apparently they’re contagious for 1 week before symptoms and 2 weeks after.

Oh goody.

Luckily, my children have been immunized, and will hopefully avoid that kind of sickness.  Liliana has been up already five or six times since she went to bed three hours ago so tonight should be a hoot.

For a good time, try teething

I had a worse-than-newborn night last night.  Kaylie was up twice (three times if you include when she came downstairs and thought it was morning), and Liliana was up screaming every. single. hour.  No exaggerating.  After her last time up, at around 6:00 am, I got to sleep two hours straight.  It was wonderful.

I’m kind of spoiled.  Lili has been sleeping through the night since she was 8 weeks old.  Having a night like last night is hard!  Normally, she’s up looking for her soother once, maybe twice, but not screaming all night long.  She was happy as a clam when she got out of bed at 8:00 this morning though.  The little monster.

Kaylie’s fever had spiked when I checked it before I went to bed, but this morning it was better and she had her appetite back.  We let her sleep in until 8:30 am (she should give Liliana some sleeping lessons) and she hung out on the couch until about 10:30 am when she started begging to go to school.  This kid loves school.  And it was 100 day in her class.  She did not want to miss it.

Her fever was gone (37.1) by that time so I decided to let her go.  I sent her with a stay-inside-at-lunch note though, just to be safe.  I don’t think that she has mono like I feared.  Last night she was quite out of it, even hallucinating fireworks, but this morning she was better, just a little dizzy.  I’m hoping that it’s just a mini short-lived virus.

Since Noah works stupid shifts (11am - 8pm), I let him put the kids to bed Monday night, since he doesn’t get to see them hardly at all during the day.  Liliana is hit and miss when it comes to stories.  That night, she was hooked.

I think I figured out what was up with her last night.  I’m pretty sure she’s getting a molar on her bottom left-hand side.  I felt something sharp there today.  She likes showing off her teeth.

She also likes smiling.  Especially when she’s supposed to be sleeping.

This kid has about a billion toys …

… but she’d rather chew on Daddy’s iPod cord.

Lili’s big sister sometimes gets a little camera envy.  She loves seeing pictures of herself.

It’s probably because she’s so cute.

Kaylie came home after school today feeling great.  She wanted to go to Grannie’s house after school, but I, being a horrible mean mommy, made her come home so that she could rest.  Moms are so boring sometimes.

She went to bed tonight without a complaint of feeling yucky.  Liliana did not.  She’s already been up screaming a couple times. It’s a good thing I’m in a good mood.  I just came back from a girls night out.  Those always put me in a good mood.

If you’re up in the middle of the night, think of me.  I’ll probably be up too.  Getting my exercise by walking to and from Liliana’s bedroom.

Teething is fun.

The Kids Aren’t Alright

Warning: this blog does not flow.  Follow along anyway.  If you’d like. I’ll even give you a picture of a cute baby to bribe you.

Lili Pie

It was my first day back as the sole house cleaner.  It was hard!  I’d forgotten how much gets done around here.  And I decided that dishwashers are completely underrated.  I know that Noah worked hard when he was my house husband, but if I’m going to get everything done that needs to be done, I’m going to have to close the laptop.  It’s amazing what I can get accomplished once it is closed!

It seems, though, that Noah should not go to work anymore.  Since he left yesterday morning, Liliana’s naps have been very short, there started a huge leak under the sink, Kaylie broke two of her toys, and the pellet stove would not start.

I decided to take a week off from Menu Plan Monday and How-to Tuesday for fear that if I do them, I may have a nervous breakdown due to computer stress overdose.

This morning I got up early so that I could write the grocery list in peace and quiet.  I usually get up at 7:30 am, but this morning it was 7:00 am.  I figured that I’d have an hour of quiet before the kids got up.  I was wrong.  Liliana was up at 7:05 am and Kaylie was up at 7:25 am.  No quiet time for mom.  It was 8:30 am and I still hadn’t started it.  It was time to drive Kaylie to school.  Good thing I got up early.

Angella wrote today about her and her husband’s lists.  You know, the lists.  The ones you’ve seen on Friends.  The ones that mean that if you were trapped in an elevator with …. okay, no, they’re just a dose of unrealistic humour.  Things that will never happen, so why not have a little fun making a list?  Lists are fun.  Even if it’s just the grocery list.

Here’s mine:
George Clooney (sorry Angella, but no list is a list without him)
Johnny Depp (in Pirates)
David Beckham

I’m taking a stab at Noah’s, I’ll ask him later to see if it’s really true:
Rachael Leigh Cook
Jennifer Love Hewitt
Katie Holmes (in her Dawson’s Creek days)

Noah’s response: I only get three?  I don’t like your list.  Delete it.

I got an email from Kaylie’s teacher today saying that one of the kids in her class has mononucleosis (mono).  A couple minutes after reading that email, Kaylie said she wasn’t feeling well.  (I hadn’t told her about the email.)  The email said that the symptoms of mono are constant fatigue, fever, sore throat, loss of appetite, swollen lymph nodes, headaches, sore muscles, skin rash, and/ or abdominal pain Kaylie had a fever, sore throat, loss of appetite, a headache, and abdominal pain.Wonderful.I laid her on the couch with a blanket and told her to try to get some rest.  She was asleep in minutes, and slept for the next hour or so.  That’s when I knew she was sick.  If Kaylie sleeps during daylight hours, something is wrong!

After Noah put the kids to bed tonight (I was at a meeting), he said that Liliana was up screaming quite a bit.  Goody.  This is also not normal.  Sometimes she’ll cry a little bit, but usually we don’t hear from her until, oh, 4:00 am.  Even then we just find her soother and she’s back to sleep until 7:30 am (ish).  Since I’ve been home, she’s been screaming about every 10 minutes.  The only way she’s happy is when she’s in her swing, which is odd, because she rarely goes in there anymore.

Hm.

Kaylie came down at about 10:40 tonight and said, “Okay, I’m getting up now.”  Apparently she thought it was morning.  Noah was in the shower, so Kaylie probably thought that shower = morning.  I took her (and Liliana) back upstairs and tucked them both in.

No quiet morning and no quiet evening.  I’m really going to enjoy my sleep tonight.

Inflammation Information

Apparently I talk too much. Or something like that. I’ve had an aching jaw for quite some time, maybe a couple months, but I didn’t really think anything of it. I figured it was just one of those things that would go away, and if I went and saw a doctor for it, he/she’d tell me it was nothing and send me on my way.

Today it was bugging me something fierce. I decided to suck it up and make a dentist appointment. I called in the morning and got in in the afternoon. How often does that happen? Usually it’s a two month wait.

The appointment was at 2:00 pm. I got in at 2:45 and was out by 2:55. I learned about the horrible Canadian Childcare system while I waited. Boring, yet informative. Good to know.

My not-so-regular dentist informed me that I have an inflamed jaw and would have to go on an anti-inflamatory drug for 10 days. Goodie. He said that on top of the medication, I could not chew gum, open my mouth wide, and a myriad of other things, for the next 2-3 months. Months? How the heck am I going to do that? (Insert sarcastic comment(s) from Russ and/or Todd - I know you’re reading this.)

When I told Noah of my oh-so-exciting instructions, he replied, “Aw, that sucks. I guess we have to do old-people smoochin’.” Sorry honey, I guess so. But I’m naturally defiant, so maybe we can break the rules once in a while.

The dentist said that I can either take the drugs and do as he says, or I’m going to have to wear a mouth guard. I don’t know about you, but when I hear “mouth guard”, I think like this too. No way no how you’re going to get me to wear anything even remotely close to that. I’d rather just keep my inflamed jaw thankyouverymuch.

On my way back in to work, I had to walk through a couple smokers who were smoking right outside the entrance to the church. Gross. I smell like cigarettes and I didn’t even smoke. I hate that.

In other equally-exciting news, I quit facebook. Again. Call it what you want, but I’m out. Most likely never to be back. Never say never though.

NaBloPoMo

Yup, I’ve signed up. Bitetherabbit inspired me. It was last year during NaBloPoMo that I started reading her blog. I’ve been thinking about a theme, but I’m not totally sold on it yet.

In other news, I got mastitis on Wednesday or Thursday and thought it was the flu. Apparently not. Good thing is that it got me out of doing my last three days of babysitting. I didn’t find out until Friday late afternoon what it actually was. My friend convinced me to finally go to the doctor for my flu/sinus infection.

I’ve been horribly lacking in the area of pictures lately. Being sick = not interested in taking pictures. But, soon I’m going to visit my favorite little niece so I’m sure the pictures will be flowing like Niagara Falls.

My baby is now a whopping 15 lbs 12 oz (fully clothed) and 26 inches long! She’s gained roughly 1 lb per month for the last couple months. Liliana’s had a rough time these last couple days. Almost every time she eats, she’s been crying. What do I do about that? What’s causing it?

I got hit by a bus

Not literally, just figuratively. Ever woken up that way? Your head is throbbing, you feel like you’re swallowing knives, your nose is running faster than your refrigerator, you have that all-over achy feeling … and you can’t take drugs because you’re still nursing full time. Fun.

We had a farewell dinner for my in-laws the other night. There was some scary stuff going on that night involving spandex and a Speedo. I’ll spare you the details. I’m scarred for life after watching that. Here’s a short clip of my church elders though. I love that the leaders in my church have a sense of humor.

While this was going on, Liliana was bonding with her Papa. Oh yea, and she’s FIVE months old already. Can you believe it?
