Liliana and Kaylie go to the dentist

Noah’s benefits kicked in about six months ago, but it’s taken until now for me to finally book dentist appointments for the girls. I love how quickly we can get in here. Back in Terrace we always had to wait months and months, and here it’s like, how about next week? It’s wonderful.

I was kind of nervous as to how Liliana would react to the dentist, as she’s got some weird fears, like running water and the bathtub drain and the vacuum (this one is new). She used to be afraid of her shadow. It terrified her. Literally. But! She did great! I was waiting for her to completely freak out at having someone put something in her mouth, but she didn’t! I forgot to get a photo of her in the chair because I was waiting for the bomb to drop. Nothing like a little pessimism, right?

I was told that both Kaylie and Liliana have perfect teeth, straight and perfectly spaced apart, and that they brush so well they didn’t even need to have their teeth polished. And no cavities. Score!

Kaylie went in first (all by herself!) while Liliana, Preston, and I waited in the waiting room. Liliana talked the receptionist’s ear off while Preston showed off his new walking skills. (Did I mention he took five steps on Tuesday? FIVE! I am so not ready for this, but he is SO happy with himself.)

Kaylie’s appointment lasted only 15 minutes, every second of which Liliana asked if it was her turn yet. I think the receptionist was glad to see us go, although she was so great answering all of Liliana’s questions and being very patient with her. And as usual, I got comments about Preston’s hair color (happens everywhere I go) and surprise at the fact that he is only 10 months old (yes, I know he is a big baby; yes, he was almost 10lbs when he was born; yes, I know he has red hair and YES, I do like it).

When Liliana was finally called in, she was so excited she was vibrating. Some guy held the door open for us when we went into the building (which holds more than just the dentist’s office) and she told him that she was GOING TO THE DENTIST and that she was SO EXCITED. He told her that she was the first person that he had met who was excited about going to the dentist. She had a little bit of a hard time sitting still in the chair, which is to be expected when you are four and you are asked to sit still, but otherwise her appointment was … uneventful. I KNOW!

I called Noah after we left and after I told him how things went he was dumbfounded. He was expecting me to call exasperated and full of anxiety. He was expecting to hear about cavities and tantrums. He didn’t even know what to say to me when I called him in a chipper mood telling him that everything had gone perfectly. I had to ask if he was still there because he was so lost for words.

So, today was a good day. As you can tell. And so was Tuesday. That’s two good days in one week! Which is pretty awesome for someone with depression in the winter. I’m foreseeing more good days coming up as Noah and Kaylie are going to Manitoba this weekend with his mom to see his grandma and I get to spend some time alone with my two youngest goobers. It’s incredible how much the dynamic in our house changes when one kid is gone. And next week the girls are on February Break and we’re heading to Regina for a couple days to hang out with some of my favorite people like Anna and Schmutzie and maybe Kami. (Not that maybe Kami is one of my favorite people (she IS), but maybe I will get to see her.)

And we are more than half-way through February which means that it is almost March which means that it is almost SPRING. Do you know what SPRING will mean? It will mean that winter is OVER.

Things to look forward to. I has ‘em.

  1. I saw the blog titled and immediately got to thinking what kind of crazy-ness Liliana got up to. Admittedly, it was a slightly anti-climactic for me to see that it went so well. Though I’m thrilled it was no stress for you!!

As for winter being over…I’m not going to lie, I’d like one more big dump. But you’re right, the sooner it’s over the soon it will be spring. And the sooner it’s spring, the sooner it will be summer when we all get to see each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. So glad it went well! The dentist is like my least favourite place ever, it’s right up there with the Gyno…*shudders* I hate those appointments!

  3. Yay for pleasant surprises! I find that with Jack too, the things I think are going to make him lose it don’t. And those that don’t even occur to me that might, do.

He does loathe the dentist – could be that the floride makes him gag!

  4. So glad that it went well and that you are feeling so good. I am so happy as the sun is still shining at the end of Feb in Northern Ohio. I got to take a walk with the dog this morning with just a thermal and a vest-I probably should have had something on my ears, but it was glorious. I am still bummed that I have only used my new snow boots once though. The sunshine does wonders for my mood. I wish I could send the sunshine up to you!

Have fun in Regina (I am so tickled that I know how to say it properly and give Schmutzie a big hug from me!)

  5. Again, smiling at this post. And maybe a little bit envious that you get to spend time with Anna, Elan and (maybe) Kami. :)
