NaBloPoMo Day 11: the 7-year-old environmentalist

The other day Kaylie came to me and asked if we could have a parade.

A parade?
Yes, and we can hold signs and stuff.
Signs?
Yea, like “Save the trees” and “Save the animals” and stuff like that.
Why?
Because animals are dieing because people are cutting down too many trees.
Oh.
So can we?
Um, I think you should ask your dad when he gets home.

When Noah came home, Kaylie was already in bed, but had told me that she was going to stay awake until Noah got home so that she could ask him.  I warned Noah in advance, as soon as he walked in the door, to just listen and not be all real-life about it.

Normally the kids are not allowed out of their beds after we tuck them in, except for a bathroom break.  Singular.  I made the exception and let Kaylie come out to ask Noah about the “parade”.  The two of them had the conversation, Kaylie was satisfied, and she went back to bed and hasn’t said anything about the parade since then.

On my way past her window a couple days later, I saw little pieces of paper on her window.  I looked closer to see what they said.

my 7-year-old environmentalist

If you cannot read them, they say “Save animals!” “Save wild life!” “Do not cut down trees!” and again, “Do not cut down trees!”

Noah saw them that same day and we kind of chuckled to ourselves at the little activist we have on our hands.  Noah said that he was going to tell her that the paper she was writing on was made from trees.  I told him to save her that trouble.

Noah, being his father’s son, felt like it was his duty to inform Kaylie that paper was made from trees.  Her response?  “What?!  I am NOT using paper ANYMORE!”

Before the signs and the parade came up, Kaylie asked me if we could stop eating animals.  I told her that God said it was okay to eat the animals, and that we weren’t going to stop any time soon.  She was okay with that, although I can see a budding vegetarian in her.  Lucky for her, unlucky for her parents, she has two aunties (one on each side) that are vegetarians.  Talitha and Erica, do not even THINK about convincing her to stop eating meat.  Do. Not.  Your Christmas presents hang in the balance.

This post was set to automatically post, so no I DID NOT BLOG while my children were away.  That would just be silly. Why do I mention this?  BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE JUST LIKE TO ANNOY ME.  You know who you are.
