No need for mama

My baby doesn’t need me anymore.

On Wednesday, she nursed for the last time.

For the last couple weeks, she’s been just nursing in the morning. We cut out the night time feeding a couple months ago. We were supplementing the night time feeding with formula anyway, and decided to just cut the nursing at night since she was more interested in her bottle anyway. We cut out the lunch time feeding when I went back to work, then cut out the late afternoon feeding when I got too busy after work.

I hate that we had to cut feedings. I hated that we had to cut them because they were “not convenient”. I hated that Noah was doing most of her feedings, and I was doing only about one per day. I really appreciated that Noah was so willing to take over as her primary caregiver, I just hated giving up the role. He was and is wonderful at the job, but he’s not me. He’s not the mommy.

In the last week or so, Liliana has been nursing for about 30 seconds to a minute in the morning. I didn’t think that was quite enough (not even close) but she seemed satisfied. Then on Tuesday this week, she was not at all interested. Wednesday she was interested for about 10 seconds. I decided that was it. She was finished. I would rather that she had formula than starve.

So, now my baby doesn’t need me anymore. It’s a sad day in the life of a mom.

This is also a sad day for me. I just read a blog about breast feeding. Those are 2 minutes of my life I will never get back.

Chels - yes, I can completely relate now.

Todd - oh come on! It’s not as bad as the conversations in Russ’ office when I first got pregnant! (and the rest the followed where you learned way more than you ever wanted to about pregnancy)

Elizabeth - yes, way too fast!

    Jackie - YES! It is!!

I read your blog often but I am not sure you ever knew! I am a lurker..haha! I know we have met before but we don’t know one another. Anyways…I will be weaning my daughter this month and I am so sad! She has been nursing less and less everyday and now she has started biting! So I completly understand what you are going through!
