$#!* Liliana says

Thanks for the comments on that last post. I really appreciate them. It’s just the last part of that forgive-and-forget thing — the second part is impossible. I have a hard time recovering from hurt. And when the person you’ve promised to spend the rest of your life with is the one who has hurt you the most, the way Noah and I have done to each other, it’s hard to recover from that. Noah is much better than I am at this and since our move to Saskatoon, he has been the most incredible partner I could ever ask for. He loves me and he proves it every day. He’s just having a hard time chipping away at the icy wall I’ve put up, not for lack of trying. But he’s getting there. It’s good. It’s better than it ever has been. We’ll get there. I actually had a really good day yesterday, the best I’ve had in a very long time.

Anyway, on to happy things, those things being the things that come out of Liliana’s mouth. Some of these are new, some are things I’ve posted on Facebook or Twitter in the last month or so.

02/04/12 {costumed stranger}

Noah took her to last ballet class because I was feeling quite crappy. (I usually take the girls to their Saturday activities while Noah and Preston have Man Time.) The parents were apparently called into the class to watch and so that the instructor could hand out costumes for the recital in June. The kids did their little number, and Liliana turned around and said to Noah, “Dad! When I’m done, you have to CLAP!”

It came time to hand out the uniforms and one of the helpers would list out the name of the dancer and the size of their costume. When they got to our beloved four-year-old:
“… Liliana, small …”
*runs over to Noah*
“Dad! I am not small!”

When all the little girls had tried on their costumes, Liliana ran around knocking the hats off the other dancers. Because of course she did.

Liliana was sick last week and was tantruming every time her nose started to run or when she couldn’t breathe out her nose. After going into her room about half a bazillion times before going to bed, Noah decided to just sleep on the empty bottom bunk to save himself from having to go all the way down the hall. (We have a night-time deal — I deal with Preston, he deals with the other two, should they wake, which is rare.)

The next morning, Noah told me that at some point during the night Liliana woke him up with, “Daddy! DADDY! Stop making that sound with your nose!”

Liliana and Kaylie were getting ready for bed before their Saturday Night Movie and Liliana was freaking out because she was scared the movie was going to start without her (even though I told her it would not). Noah was helping her get her pajamas on quickly and she was being resistent to the help. Noah explained to her why he was helping her and why she should just cooperate so that she could get to her movie. She said to him, “Why are you being a bad dad?” Because apparently he was bossing her and bossing her means that he was being a bad dad. Huh.

While signing her Valentines …
“This time I’m going to spell it L-I-L-Y-A-N-A.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s Lil-EEEE-ana.”
“I’M SO SORRY FOR MISSPELLING YOUR NAME WHEN I NAMED YOU.”
(but, for the record, I did spell her name correctly)

~*~

“Mama, can I have your iPhone now?”
“Yes, as long as you’re quiet.” (Preston was sleeping)
“As quiet as a snail? Or a giraffe?”

~*~

Noah was trying to get Preston to sleep and Liliana was being loud in her room. I went to quiet her.
“Lili, you either have to be quiet, or shut your door. Which would you like to do?”
“None of those. Can I watch a movie?”

Liliana had been sick for a couple days and one morning she got so upset that she wasn’t going to school that she made herself vomit. I caught it in her Dora blanket. When things had calmed down, she said to me, “And one day, Mama, I’ll get you your very own Dora blanket to puke in.”

~*~

“Mama! Help me with my toque!”
“Liliana, you are fully capable of putting on your own toque.”
“I am NOT fully capable! Don’t call me that! I’m a nice girl!”

~*~

“Mama, sometimes life slows me down and it just doesn’t feel right.”

~*~

“Mama, sometimes it’s just hard being such an old girl.”

  1. Oh yes, the latest in my life is with 3yo Katie…”Kaitlyn, stop being so contrary!” “I AM NOT!”
And then I kind of have to laugh, because, really.

  2. “I am NOT fully capable! Don’t call me that! I’m a nice girl!” That one’s my favorite. :-)

  3. I LOVE those. I have this theory that God has kids say funny things so that they live to see 20, or so that we can avoid going completely stark raving mad because you know there are those days….

  4. Exactly how quiet is a giraffe? LOL

  5. I love her.

    And you.
