The best part of being home is the toothpaste
Yay! We’re home! I survived all day traveling with two little kids.
Disclaimer: I’m sorry if this post is too long for you. It’s mostly written for my non-existent memory, and partly because I want to keep you up all. night. long. But don’t worry, it’s mostly pictures!
Day 1: Opa
Last Friday, we made the 2-hour trek to my Opa’s place. In those two hours, Liliana went through a whole package of Baby Mum Mums.
My opinion? Whatever keeps her not screaming.

Kaylie had a blast trying to beat her Overopa in foosball.
Liliana learned that it’s not nice to bite Charlie. (No babies were injured before, after, or during this picture.)
My Opa found a gift I had given him way back in the early ’90s. It’s one of those gifts with the poem on the front that you never open because it’s filled with love.
The day we were there, it was my Opa’s 77th birthday. Kaylie befriended this guy and sat with him the entire evening.
I still have no idea who he was.
Day 2: PG
On Saturday we made the 4-hour drive to PG to see this little baby girl and her parents. She and Liliana had not seen each other in almost exactly a year.
Isn’t she sweet?
Day 3: Maya
Happy First Birthday Maya!!
More on this day here.
Day 4: Vancouver
Me and two little kids on an airplane? Almost pure torture.
Actually, it wasn’t so bad. Liliana didn’t scream until the descent, she was just kind of a monster the whole time. She does not like to be restrained.
We went through more Baby Mum Mums.
It’s a good thing they’re low fat.
Upon arrival, we got a van! I figured I’d take advantage of not having Noah with me and get his worst-nightmare vehicle. Since I made so much in my garage sale, I got to rent this beast.
It was great, except it was huge and I had a hard time parking it. But? I did not hit anything that I know of.
When we arrived at Nickh & Teresa’s, we got to meet my 3-week-old niece Kaitlyn. I totally forgot how small babies are! She is so perfect and tiny and I so enjoyed spending time with her.
Another little girl who came to greet us was Kaitlyn’s big sister Eva. She is definitely my favorite 2-year-old girl.
Kaylie enjoyed snuggling with a baby who did not try to push her away with every hug.
Day 5: Park
Tuesday I got to go shopping! Woot!
A couple awesome friends of mine gave me some birthday cash to spend on my trip. Teresa and I hit American Eagle and totally scored on the clearance racks.
That afternoon we took the kids to the park.
She is just too much fun.
And she was being such a great big cousin.

Seriously now, Auntie Jen. Enough with the pictures already!
Aren’t Liliana’s jeans cute? See the little ruffle on the bottom?
The jeans and her little pink shirt were her birthday gift from the Braams. I love them.
This picture exhibits my husband and my brother’s worst nightmare. Four kids in a VAN!
Noah shuddered when I showed this picture to him.
Day 6: Matching
The day started out with a bang. Actually it was a fire alarm. A smoke detector to be exact. I thought it would be a nice treat for the kids if I made pancakes. Not such a good idea. Apparently I’m no good with stainless steel pans or gas ranges.
All the kids were up when the smoke detector went off just after 7. I think I ruined Teresa’s pan.
I’m awesome.
Eva, Daniel, Kaitlyn, Kaylie, Caleb, Liliana.
Aren’t they cute?
These little kiddos are a couple days apart. Both their moms have the best name ever.
Cousins! In matching dresses!
Nick & Teresa just got their fence the day before these pictures were taken. Talk about perfect timing!
Liliana: I’m just gonna chew on this lens cover, mmkay?
Kaylie: Mom! The sun is IN MY EYES!
Eva: Seriously, Auntie Jen! I TOLD YOU I’VE HAD ENOUGH PICTURES!
My girls.
Runaway lens cap. And Liliana.
Whee!
I love all pictures of me. Every single one.
Riiiiight.
While the other three babies napped, Kaylie got to bake with Auntie Teresa. I was too busy reading blogs snuggling with Kaitlyn to take pictures during the process, so I made them pose as if they were still working.
White Rock beach.
Kaylie had a blast looking for shells.
One of my favorites.
Kaylie needed to prove to her Grannie that she got her sea shell from the sea!
Eating drift wood. Mmmm.
My little younger but taller brother and my baby.
A couple more pictures and details (cuz you totally need more) here (and on Teresa’s blog here and here).
Day 7: Toothpaste
The girls and I left Nick & Teresa’s at about 7:15 yesterday morning and headed to the airport. We were actually on time and had an uneventful flight, besides a little white-knuckled turbulence. I hate turbulence (thus the white knuckles).
Also? A little bit of advice. Do not buy your daughters Cheesies when you’re confined in a small space and wearing a white shirt. It’s just not wise.
After the flight, we had a 7-hour drive home. We got home at exactly 7:00 last night. I had a big goofy smile on my face when I got to see my hot husband again. I kind of missed him.
I also missed his toothpaste. Since Noah and I share toothpaste (not toothbrush), I decided to be a nice wife and leave it for him. I used Kaylie’s toothpaste the whole trip (except one night when I stole a little bit of Chelsey’s). Kids toothpaste tastes disgusting. I missed the minty taste in my mouth that is usually there after I brush my teeth. Instead I had a yucky bubble-gum-ish nasty taste in my mouth and my teeth did not feel clean.
I’m not sure how Kaylie feels about her toothpaste, but I’m buying her some minty-fresh stuff next time. A tube that doesn’t have Disney Princesses on it.
All in all? I feel refreshed. Which is exactly how you should feel after a vacation, right?
Thought so.
