three months

"I'm THREE months old? REALLY?!"

Preston is just as surprised as you are that he is already three months old.

Weight: 18.2 lbs
Height: 27 inches
Clothing size: mostly 12 months, some lingering 6-9 month items

hiding from the camera

Our little linebacker has discovered his hands in the last couple weeks and now loves to play with his blanket and shove his fists in his mouth. He’s not yet able to grab toys, but I’m sure that will come all too quickly. He is constantly smiling, but puts his smiles away the moment I get a camera close to him. We’ve been able to get him to laugh a lot lately, too, which has been super fun.

He seems to always have his eyebrows raised, like he’s super interested in what you are talking about, or he is constantly surprised.

swing nap

He is in a 2-2.5 hour routine of eating, being awake, and sleeping. He usually takes all of his naps except the one before bed time. Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn’t, I don’t push it because I figure he’ll sleep longer at night if he doesn’t take it. He’s been taking a lot of his naps in the swing lately, as it has been way too hot to rock him during the day.

He usually goes to bed at 8 and sleeps until about 8, feeding 1-3 times in there. It’s never consistent. Sometimes he’ll sleep until 5, wake, eat, and nurse himself back to sleep. Sometimes he’ll eat at 2-ish, 5-ish, and 7-ish. It doesn’t really matter to me, because I just take him to bed the first time he wakes up and he nurses while I fall back asleep.

His doctor had originally told me that he might have to start solids at 3 months, but I’m holding off. He eats more often, but when he’s done eating, he’s satisfied and happy. He’s growing and filling diapers like a champ, so I don’t think he needs solids yet. If nursing more often means holding off solids, so be it.

He lights up when he sees himself in the mirror and I’d love to know what he is thinking when he sees his reflection. Does he know it’s him? Does he think I’m holding another baby when he sees the mirror? I’ve always wondered exactly how much a baby can comprehend.

He brings us much joy, this little dude. These last three months have been, by far, my favorite.

  4. You are doing such a great job! I’m SO thrilled to read about a mom who is feeding her baby when he’s hungry and not worrying about a schedule… happy baby, happy mommy, happy family! Also, I’m really glad you are following your instincts and Preston’s cues as to when to introduce solids… you are right, you do need to feed him more often, but, he’s getting the best baby nutrition there is and he has a lifetime of solids ahead of him… Way to go!

  5. What a cutie! Love all the photos – 3 months already, where does time go?
